Lasers

I have owned each of these lasers

I own the LP2 and LP4 these are really well made peices of hardware with terrible software. The good news is that the software is constantly being improved. These are both "Galvinomiter" lasers which makes them very fast for small engrave jobs.

I own the XTool M1 which is a really nice 10W diode laser. The lower power means very precice engraving that is not possible on the higher power CO2 lasers. Software is ok, but has really nice design features. A medium size bed, and a nice design for the vent fan. I use an external fan to enhance smoke removal.

I owed the Glowforge Pro. In terms of fit and finish, no laser I have used has done a better job. The laser itself is fine. Two major downsides: you have to use the web software, which would be fine if it were highly capable. It is slow, and they don't give the free version enough power. The other issue is more critical. There is a hardware design flaw. The vent fan is blocked and hard to get to. So it clogs fast and is hard to clean.

This is a midrange device, solid (uninspired) design. The software provided is a bit of a train wreck. In thory you can use Lightburn, but I haven't tried.

Software

Lightburn: https://lightburnsoftware.com I do use this, and it is very capable... but the UI BITES, so I use it as little as I can, and don't get the real power out of it.
